As part of World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, observed every May 21st, the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER), through its Social Action Area, highlights the importance of strengthening teacher training to address the diversity found in classrooms.
The event aims to promote respect, inclusion, and harmony among people of different backgrounds, recognizing education as a key tool for building more equitable and healthy societies. Today, diversity in the classroom encompasses multiple dimensions: cultural, linguistic, social, and those related to special educational needs.
At FUNIBER, we are committed to training teachers to be better equipped to create inclusive learning environments through various academic programs designed to strengthen the pedagogical skills necessary for inclusion in the classroom.
To gain a better understanding of this topic, we conducted an exclusive interview with Professor Dr. Thomas Prola, an education professor, who discusses the main challenges and opportunities of diversity in the classroom from a teacher’s perspective. Watch the interview below:
The issue was also addressed within the framework of the DigitalTA Teacher Well-being Program, a forum where educators, academics, and professionals discussed the importance of creating the emotional, institutional, and pedagogical conditions necessary to move toward inclusive education.
The program’s event took place on May 14th and was titled “Working within Diversity: If We Are All Different, How Do I Teach?” The session explored the experiences of teachers in the DigitalTA learning community, a teacher training platform created by FUNIBER in collaboration with European institutions as part of European Union research projects.
FUNIBER believes that diversity means turning differences into an opportunity for collective learning and for social and personal enrichment.
