FUNIBER participates in the 2nd Symposium on Equity organized by the Association of Pan American Sports Confederations

The Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER) will participate in the 2nd Symposium on Equity, organized by the Association of Pan American Sports Confederations (ACODEPA), on March 28th at 8:30 a.m. (Mexico).

The event will be held in Spanish and English. Those interested can register via the following link. The event is supported by the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana de Puerto Rico (International Iberoamerican University, UNIB), the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana de México (International Iberoamerican University of Mexico, UNINI México), the Fundación Universitaria Internacional de Colombia (International University Foundation of Colombia, UNINCOL), the Universidade Internacional do Cuanza (International University of Cuanza, UNIC), and the Universidad de La Romana (University of La Romana, UNIROMANA).

The purpose of this conference is to introduce the topic of safe sports and raise awareness about the importance of safety and well-being in sports. Topics will cover the context and statistics related to violence in sports, the main types of violence, and how they manifest in everyday life. Finally, the session will address specific prevention and response measures, highlighting the role of organizations and individuals in creating safer, more respectful, and more responsible sports settings.

There will be two presentations at the event. Dr. Claudia Calvin, an expert in international relations, political scientist, and consultant, will lead the session titled “Safe Sports,” with the aim of introducing the topic of safe sports and raising awareness about the importance of safety and well-being in sports. Topics will cover the context and statistics related to violence in sports, the main types of violence, and how they manifest in everyday life. Finally, the session will address specific prevention and response measures, highlighting the role of organizations and individuals in creating safer, more respectful, and more responsible sports settings.

The second session will be led by Soraya de Carvalho, MS, former Olympic athlete and expert in sports education and protection. Her conference “What is Normalized is Permitted: Leadership, Culture, and Violence in the Sports Ecosystem” will explore how cultural and institutional dynamics enable invisible violence in sports, focusing on leadership accountability and the impact on mental health and organizational sustainability.
