Prof. Maurizio Battino, scientific director of the Ibero-American University Foundation (FUNIBER), together with Dr. Francesca Giampieri, researcher of the Department of Specialized Clinical Sciences and Odontostomatology of the same institution, recently concluded a mission to China during which they celebrated the signing of an important collaboration agreement with the University of Jiangsu.
The agreement provides for the creation of a “Joint Lab”, a type of joint laboratory established by several academic and research institutions, with the aim of pooling resources, skills and infrastructure to develop innovative projects. The initiative, called “Joint Laboratory on Food Science, Nutrition and Intelligent Processing of Foods”, will be sponsored by FUNIBER. The Università Politecnica delle Marche, the European University of the Atlantic and theUniversity of Jiangsu will collaborate in it, joining forces to create an international synergy in a sector of great relevance such as nutrition research.
The collaboration, already signed in the spring, was officially celebrated on August 1 with a presentation ceremony held at Jiangsu University to highlight the importance of this triple agreement and this Joint Lab that will combine the resources, expertise and infrastructure of three academic institutions to carry out advanced research in the field of nutrition and food processing.
The event, held at the Rectorate of Jiangsu University in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, was addressed by Prof. Zhou Xiaobo, Pro-Rector and Dean of the School of Food Science. Among the speakers at the various conferences organized for the occasion were Prof. Maurizio Battino, professor of Dietetic Sciences and Techniques at the Università Politecnica delle Marche, and Dr. Francesca Giampieri, also a professor at the European University of the Atlantic, which belongs to the FUNIBER network. Both have been recognized by Clarivate Analytics among the most influential researchers in the world for several consecutive years.
Università Politecnica delle Marche stands out as one of the Italian excellences, ranking fourth among medium-sized state universities in Italy according to the CENSIS 2024 ranking, while Jiangsu University is one of the top public universities in China, ranked among the 301-350 best in the world in specific subjects in the QS WUR Ranking By Subject 2024.
FUNIBER, which has always promoted international initiatives in the field of research and education and has been committed to strengthening relations between institutions, recognizes the importance of this type of collaboration for the advancement of scientific knowledge and the creation of innovative solutions to global challenges. Among the main benefits of this agreement is the opportunity to access a wide range of resources and advanced technologies through collaboration with Jiangsu University. This will enable large-scale studies involving different populations and geographic contexts, which will increase the relevance and applicability of the results obtained.
In addition, the joint laboratory will provide advanced training opportunities for students and researchers, fostering cultural and academic exchange among the three countries involved. This integrated approach will not only enrich the scientific knowledge of the participants, but may also lead to new discoveries and innovations in the field of nutrition.
With this initiative, the Polytechnic University of Le Marche, the European University of the Atlantic and the University of Jiangsu are positioning themselves as pioneers in an area crucial to global health, strengthening international collaborations and helping to improve people’s well-being through science and research.
