The campus of the Ibero-American University Foundation (FUNIBER) in Dakar, Senegal, recently hosted a new academic event organized by the Higher Institute for Education and Languages (ISEL), as part of the Bachelor’s Degree in English Language. The event brought together Senegalese middle and high school teachers, who participated in in-person training sessions and the corresponding academic assessments.
The students in the degree program are professionals currently working as teachers at the middle and high school levels. Their participation in the program allows them to continue their university education and expand their knowledge and skills in the field of the English language.
On this occasion, the activities were linked to the courses Direct Translation, Reverse Translation, and British Literature and Civilization. The sessions provided an integrated approach to topics related to linguistic accuracy, translation techniques, and knowledge of British literature and culture, with content that can later be applied in the classroom.
These in-person activities provide students with a complementary learning experience, allowing them to work directly with the course content and participate in an environment of academic exchange with other education professionals.
Academic Assessments
As part of the workshop, participants took the assessments corresponding to the courses they were taking. This work allowed them to continue their academic journey and assess the knowledge acquired during the course of the courses.
The event also fostered the exchange of experiences among teachers working in the Senegalese educational context. The experience gained in the classroom, in this regard, provides a practical component to the development of content related to language teaching and learning.
These sessions are part of the range of activities that ISEL organizes for its students and complement the monitoring of their university education.
Continuity of Education
As part of the program’s continuity, students will soon take courses related to teaching methodology, which will be delivered remotely by the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), based in Santander, Spain. The institution, a member of FUNIBER’s International University Network, will be responsible for teaching these courses, which are designed to provide pedagogical tools for teaching English as a foreign language.
This training will complement the linguistic, translation, and cultural knowledge acquired during the bachelor’s program with content specifically linked to educational practice. Teachers will thus be able to continue advancing in their university studies while maintaining their professional practice.
The continuation of these initiatives reflects the development of academic activities that allow teaching professionals to supplement their university education and strengthen their competencies in the field of languages. In the case of the Bachelor’s Degree in English Language, participants continue to advance through a program that combines the study of the language, translation, and its cultural context with content geared toward its application in the educational setting.
