The FUNIBER Cultural Works Department and UNEATLANTICO celebrate a successful year of promoting art

The FUNIBER Cultural Works Department and the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) has concluded a year filled with artistic and cultural activities that have strengthened its mission to promote art and education in society.

This success is shared with the musicians, institutions, and audiences who have supported the exhibitions, concerts, and workshops held throughout the year.

Below are some of the events that have defined the work by the Cultural Works Department in 2024:

Sixth Edition of the PHotoFUNIBER International Photography Contest

This year marked the sixth edition of the PHotoFUNIBER International Photography Contest. The photographs captured the theme of water, highlighting its biological role in human health as well as its significance as a cultural asset, integral to traditions, celebrations, and social beliefs. Some photographs emphasized water as a vital natural element for the planet, affected by climate change and human activity. Other images connected water with more emotional and subjective aspects, exploring its sentimental and affective dimensions.

Musical Tour of Artist José Manuel Gil de Gálvez

Once again, the Cultural Work supported the Malaga-born violinist and conductor José Manuel Gil de Gálvez on a musical tour that took him to perform recitals and deliver talks in Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador.

In addition, this year the musician was named a full member of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) in recognition of his achievements and contributions to the field.

Art Exhibitions in Angola

The exhibition of lithographs and engravings by Pablo Picasso «El entierro del Conde de Orgaz y la Flauta Doble» (The Burial of the Count of Orgaz and the Double Flute) has just concluded at the Walter Cambodja Polytechnic Institute of Arts in the city of Cuíto, Angola. This collection has toured extensively throughout Angola, having previously been displayed in Luanda and LubangoBenguela and Huambo. The works will be exhibited once again in Luanda, where the tour will come to an official close. With the launch of these exhibitions, the Spanish Embassy has, for the first time in Africa, offered Angolans the opportunity to experience these collections by such a universal artist.

These exhibitions were made possible through the collaboration of the Universidade Internacional do Cuanza (International University of Cuanza, UNIC), the Spanish Embassy in Angola, the Bié provincial government, the transport company AJS, and sponsorship from ENSA Seguros de Angola.

Celebrating the Centenary of Tàpies’ Birth

In 2024, the 100th anniversary of Antoni Tàpies’ birth was celebrated. Organized by the Antoni Tàpies Foundation, this commemoration aimed to delve deeply into the artist’s work and philosophy, promoting them both nationally and internationally, contributing to updated interpretations, and fostering new perspectives.

The FUNIBER Cultural Work’s Department and the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (UNEATLANTICO) marked this milestone with exhibitions of the collection «Tàpies, colección del grabador Barbarà» (Tàpies, the Barbarà Engraver’s Collection) in Colombia, Honduras and El Salvador.

FUNIBER and UNEATLANTICO’s Cultural Work will continue to promote art and music as essential tools for strengthening the bonds between culture and society.
