Meet the awarded photographs from the 5th edition of the PHotoFUNIBER’23 competition

The International Photography Competition PHotoFUNIBER’23 ends this week with a total of fourteen awards and one special mention.

This edition also commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER), and the winning works account for the diversity and creativity of the participants. The chosen photographs can be seen on the competition’s website: PHotoFUNIBER’23.

Two-thousand, seven hundred fifty-five votes were collected from public voting. The photograph with the most votes was Andina, by Donny Guevara Ocampo from Colombia, with 654 votes.

In addition to the public votes cast, the contest has also benefited from a jury of honor, made up of renowned photographers, who have established four winners, one in each category, plus six special prizes: two for each FUNIBER scholarship holder, two for undergraduate students from the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic), and two for students from the Universidade Internacional do Cuanza (International University of Cuanza).

Fernanda Patiño, member of the jury, has stated that through the competition, it was possible to demonstrate a high competitive level among the entries. Each category has had impeccable works with unique and captivating messages and stories. With the announcement of the result of the winners, it will be possible to visualize professionals of the field that inspire to create and improve the craft of photography and the entire PHotoFUNIBER community to continue participating in these spaces of academic encouragement.

The winning photos chosen by the jury are the following.

*Nature Category. – Pablo Villota with La manada bajo las estrellas. “An amazing piece with an incredible story and admirable capturing work; a reflection and admiration from humanity toward unique moments of nature,” says Feranada Patiño.

*Heritage Category. – Haikun Liang with Fried Lion. In the picture, the emotional explosion of a social event related to Chinese customs and culture is perceived from a wealth of details, conveying its symbolic and ritualistic potential.

*Photojournalism Category – Liliana Elisa Alioni with Muchachos. Anita Pouchard, member of the jury, said the following about this photograph: “It is an efficient composition of a news event of global importance.” The image manages to convey the emotions of the passion.

*Abstract Category – Betiana Noemi Benitez with Cúmulo íntimo. In this work, the conceptual approach brings together a personal but also visionary message, provoking an interconnection between the real and the dreamlike.

In addition, an honorable mention was given to Paola Rivera with Hide out, for her work of poetic impact and unique touch, which has achieved an almost surreal and sensory scene.
