The Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER) will organize, on March 18 at 17:00 hours (GMT+1), the “Why is it necessary to incorporate emotional management in journalism and communication studies?” webinar, which will be given by Dr. Carolina Escudero.
The event is held in collaboration with the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO), the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana de Puerto Rico (International Iberoamerican University, UNIB), the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana de México (International Iberoamerican University of Mexico, UNINI Mexico), the Fundación Universitaria Internacional de Colombia (International University Foundation of Colombia, UNINCOL), the Universidade Internacional do Cuanza (International University of Cuanza, UNIC), and the Universidad de La Romana (University of La Romana, UNIROMANA).
Communications professionals are experiencing an increasing level of exposure to traumatic events as a result of their involvement in the coverage of various tragedies, including accidents, weather disasters, rights violations, and acts of terrorism.
On the other hand, university journalism and communication training often lack comprehensive instruction on how to effectively manage emotional challenges, anxiety, trauma, self-care, and vicarious trauma prevention. Why is it urgent to address this issue? Those who communicate and disseminate information have a wide capacity to disseminate sensations and perceptions about an event, and their good emotional management will have a positive impact on the audience.
Dr. Carolina Escudero is a professor, researcher, and consultant in Social Psychology of the Media. She is also the academic director of the Barcelona Program, Journalism School at the University of Missouri (USA).
The conference is free of charge and open to anyone interested in the topic. It will be broadcast live in each country where FUNIBER is present.
