The Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER) and the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) celebrate academic excellence and commitment to research through the International Pre-University Prize – FUNIBER Research.
On this occasion, Sidney Cerezo, the representative of both institutions, presented the award to Colegio ISM North in Quito, Ecuador, during a special ceremony held in the city.
The award was presented to student Paula Buenaño, who, under the guidance of Professor Igor Miguel Sánchez Zarria, presented a project titled “Effects of plastic nanoparticle pollution on aquatic plants (Elodea ssp.)”. This outstanding project won second place at the prize awarding ceremony, thanks to the quality of the study, its social impact, and its environmental significance.
The jury responded very positively to the projects submitted, students’ interest in and commitment to scientific inquiry, their creativity in developing proposals, and the skills they showed in interpreting, analyzing, evaluating, and proposing studies and interventions for their local environment.
In this second edition of the International Pre-University Prize – FUNIBER Research, 30 projects from different countries participated, all of which focused on addressing issues related to the goals of the 2030 Agenda.
Congratulations to Colegio ISM North, professor Igor Miguel Sánchez Zarria, and student Paula Buenaño on receiving the prize! At FUNIBER, we continue to foster young talent and a commitment to knowledge and research to build a more sustainable and socially responsible future.
