Prof. Maurizio Battino, scientific director of the Ibero-American University Foundation (FUNBER) and the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), has been included for the tenth consecutive year in the list of most cited researchers prepared by the agency Clarivate Analytics.

In total, the 6,636 most-cited scientists of 2024 come from more than 1,200 institutions in 59 countries and regions. The list includes researchers who have published the highest number of Highly Cited Papers, i.e., those in the top 1% of the world’s most cited papers in their field in the last decade.

Maurizio Battino, Professor of Food Science at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM), has a long professional and academic career. He graduated in Biology at the University of Bologna and subsequently obtained his PhD degree with a thesis on ubiquinones. In May 2001, the University of Ancona, today Università Politecnica delle Marche, recognized him as “best researcher of the year” for the high quality of his scientific production, while in 2008 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila ” of Bucharest, Romania.

Thanks to numerous articles published in high-impact scientific journals, Prof. Battino has once again managed to appear in this prestigious ranking. This impressive achievement, reached for ten consecutive years, is due to the great relevance of his publications related to nutritional biochemistry and the properties of bioactive substances of plant origin, with applications in studies on aging, cardiovascular diseases, obesity and cancer, among others.

Along with Battino, also celebrating this achievement are Francesco Regoli, director of the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences and professor of Applied Biology at UNIVPM, and Francesca Giampieri, who has been appearing on this prestigious list for six years and is a researcher in the Department of Specialized Clinical and Odontostomatological Sciences at FUNIBER and a professor at UNEATLANTICO.

Maurizio Battino is also international director of the Health and Nutrition Area of FUNIBER, thanks to which he has instituted, since 2005, at the Polytechnic University of Marche, in Italy, a series of Postgraduate Programs in the nutritional field, of which he is the coordinator with a huge success of enrolments.
