Last November 9, in La Coruña, Spain, at the Centro de Historia y Cultura Militar Noroeste (Center of Northeast Military History and Culture), took place the presentation of the book that compiles the main lectures delivered during 2022 and 2023 in the Hispanidad Cycle organized by that institution and in which the FUNIBER Chair participated through its director, Dr. F. Álvaro Durántez Prados.
This work, published by the prestigious Dykinson publishing house, is a record of the papers presented during more than a year by important specialists and academics in historiographic and legal matters such as Dr. José Ricardo Pardo Gato; Professor of History of Law and Institutions, Dr. Ignacio Ruiz; Professors Isidro García and Javier Sáenz del Castillo; and Commander Germán Segura García.
The lecture of the Director of Institutional Relations of FUNIBER and of the Cátedra de Estudios Iberoamericanos y de la Iberofonía (Chair of Ibero-American Studies and Iberophony) which opens the publication, dealt with “Jurisdiction and sovereignty of Spain in North America,” a subject on which Dr. Durántez has already lectured on several occasions on behalf of FUNIBER, both in Canada and in Spain. Precisely, the conference given in Canada in May 2022 by Durántez, professor at the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic), was the framework for the opening of activities in the new Sala Histórica Bodega y Cuadra (Bodega y Cuadra Historical Hall) of the Spanish Embassy in that North American country in the context of the 70th anniversary of the activation of Spanish-Canadian diplomatic relations. The opening was presented by the Spanish Ambassador, Alfredo Martínez Serrano, and attended by the President of the Iberoamerican University Foundation, Dr. Santos Gracia Villar.
With these academic activities in the different areas of Humanities, FUNIBER promotes the dissemination of the shared history among the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking peoples of all continents, including the knowledge of their historical projection in the different regions of the world.
The book presentation ceremony was inaugurated by the director of the host center, Colonel Carlos Boado Quijano, and was attended by General Juan Arrazola Martínez, head of the Maneuver Support Command Headquarters in La Coruña.
