The European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), part of the university network with which FUNIBER collaborates, inaugurated last Wednesday the laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Biology named after “Doctor José Mataix Verdú”.

In this way, the new space of the institution pays tribute to the career and contributions to the field of nutrition of Dr. José Mataix Verdú, renowned professor of physiology and human nutrition.

On behalf of FUNIBER, the event was attended by the President of the institution, Santos Gracia, and the Scientific Director of FUNIBER, Maurizio Battino. Also present at the inauguration were different personalities from the university, as well as researchers in the areas of health and nutrition.

The new laboratory facilities include equipment for cellular and molecular research, a type II biological safety cabinet, a CO2 incubator, a plate reader for absorbance and fluorescence readings, centrifuges, a fluorescence microscope, and a sample concentrator, among others. Two spaces within the laboratory have also been enclosed, one dedicated to working with cells and another space for working with the fluorescence microscope, which use requires complete darkness.
