UNIROMANA, promoted by FUNIBER, receives the visit of the Minister of MESCYT

Dr. Franklin García Fermín, Minister of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT), visits the construction site of the University of La Romana (UNIROMANA), located in the province of La Romana, eastern region of the Dominican Republic.

The visit was made in the company of Mr. José Antonio Cancel, Administrative and Financial Vice-Minister of MESCYT, and Mrs. Jacqueline Fernández, provincial governor of La Romana.

During the visit, the directors of UNIROMANA, together with the director of the construction site, showed the minister the progress of the construction site, pointing out important aspects, such as the projected location of the library, registration and admission departments, teachers’ lounge, etc. They also discussed scheduling and time management, where significant progress is expected for the inauguration of the university in 2024.

After visiting the construction site, the commission from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology went to the Governor’s Offices to discuss some important aspects related to the university. During the conversations, UNIROMANA’s directors informed that several academic programs are currently being developed and are expected to be presented to CONESCYT before the end of 2023.

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT), Dr. Franklin García Fermín, has participated in the “breaking ground” to start the construction of the university. On that occasion, he was accompanied by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and the president of the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER), Santos Gracia Villar, who has been one of the great promoters of the university.
