Last January 18th, the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER) participated in a new meeting for the project entitled T-Crisis-Nav: Navigating SMEs in the tourist sector through crisis.

This project, of which FUNIBER is part of, is an initiative of the Erasmus+ program (action KA203 “Strategic Alliances for Higher Education”) of the European Commission (EC).

The meeting was attended by all members of the project: Julia Grey and David Blunck (The Vision Works) from Germany; Catherine Neill (European E-Learning Institute) from Denmark; Laura Magan (Momentum Marketing Services Limited) from Ireland; Steve Taylor (University of the Higlands and Islands) from Scotland and Íris Halldórsdóttir and Gudrun Gunnarsdóttir (University of Ayukeri) from Iceland. Representing FUNIBER in the meeting were the local coordinator Thomas Prola and the Communications Department.

The aim of the project is to support SMEs in the tourism sector and redirect their businesses which have been considerably affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The visual identity of the project was decided in previous meetings in accordance with the topic. The logo is identified with a “footprint” to emphasize the impact that the pandemic has had on the tourism sector.

At the moment, all partners are in the information gathering phase. One of the problems participants have encountered is the lack of literature on the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact over businesses in this sector.

The partners hope to complete several interviews with tourism companies and organizations by the end of February and obtain a more specific view of the problems that have come about the current restrictions.

The website will soon be available and free of charge. Those interested can find further information on the economic recovery of the tourism industry and the strategies and actions to be taken to achieve this goal.

In addition to the research work on the current context of tourism, FUNIBER will oversee the content dissemination strategies.

The next meeting will be held on February 15, to exchange views on the difficulties that arise and new actions to be developed for this project.
