Natalí de Oliveira Alencar, from Brazil, wins the 4th edition of the FUNIBER Solidary Writing contest

The Brazilian candidate, Natali de Oliveira Alencar, was proclaimed winner of the fourth edition of the  “Solidary Writing” contest, organized by the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER), after a bitter dispute in the vote that ended yesterday at midnight, thanks to her emotional text ‘A doaçao tempo em tempos de amargura’, on the NGO Centro de Valorização da Vida (CVV).

Natali de Oliveira, from São Paulo, has moved the FUNIBER community of students and alumni with a text about the NGO CVV, with which she collaborates, and it focuses on helping and offering support to people in situations of vulnerability and risk of exclusion in order to prevent possible cases of suicide. The starting point of the text, and one of the ‘raison d’être’ of this organization, is the estimate of the World Health Organization (WHO) according to which nine out of ten cases of suicide can be prevented. That assessment, together with the fact that an average of 32 people die every day in Brazil by suicide, gives an idea of the admirable task that the CVV carries out.

The Brazilian student, who is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Communication, sponsored by the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER) and entitled by the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), has managed to win over the other two finalists; Juliana Patricia Martin, from Colombia, who finished second thanks to her text ‘No somos estadísticas somos historias, and Ana Elisa Martínez, from Guatemala, who participated with ‘La vida puede ser bella’.

The prize for the winner of the fourth edition of the “Solidary Writing” contest is valued at 1000 euros, which the Brazilian participant will be able to donate to an NGO of her choice, while the second prize will be 500 euros, which will benefit an organization chosen by the Colombian participant.
