Maurizio Battino will lead an international research group

Dr. Maurizio Battino, executive director of FUNIBER Italy and director of the Health and Nutrition area from the Foundation, will lead an international research team at the University of Vigo.

During the launch event, Battino declared he wishes “To build a strong research group. I like challenges and that is the main reason why I accept this proposal”.

The new research group, led by Maurizio Battino, will have its regular place in a lab of the Citexvi building, and it will be formed by the Ramón y Cajal sponsorship student, Miguel Ángel Prieto from Braganza; the Cuban scientist Tamara Forbes Hernández, awarded with a Juan de la Cierva grant from the University of Vigo, after obtaining the best score of Spain; the post-doc grantholder, Patricia Reboredo Rodriguez, who had already worked with Battino in Ancona (Italy); and the PhD Antía González Pereira.  “I look forward to more pre and post-doc researchers joining our team during the next weeks or months. People willing to accept this challenge, not only from Vigo, since our goal is to form an international group”, said Battino.

Dr. Maurizio Battino, who is 57 years old, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of Bologna, he has a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Catania and he is Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Carol Davila from Bucharest (Romania).

He has been in the highly cited researchers list (HCR) during 4 years in a row, and he has more than 200 publications in good-quality and high-impact international scientific journals, in which he has published articles related to his research in bioenergy, biomembranes, antioxidant molecules and nutrition.

Battino has been recognized over the past two years as one of the world’s most influential researchers by the prestigious group of communication Thomson Reuters.

The new research group that he will lead will have its regular place in a lab of the Citexvi building, and it will be formed by pre and post-doc students. “I look forward to more pre and post-doc researchers joining our team during the next weeks or months. People willing to accept this challenge, not only from Vigo, since our goal is to form an international group”, said Battino.

The Director of FUNIBER Italy is also a professor at the Polytechnic University delle Marche and Scientific Director of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), which are part of the university network with which FUNIBERcollaborates.
